Stomping Out Fear
Fear is based on our ignorance of our connection to God.
Many people see
God as a separate entity. We see God as a Higher Being that exists
somewhere in the heavens, and is only available to us when times get
hard.
Because we see God as a separate entity, we are often fearful of things.
But the Bible clearly tells us that God has not given us the spirit of
fear. And since the spirit of fear does not come from God, then it comes
from somewhere else.
Fear is our imagination working in overtime.
Let me give you an example. How many times have you heard a sound that
caused you to jump out of your skin? But after careful observance, you
realized that it was really something simple and not very harmful—for
instance, a book falls off a shelf and makes a loud noise. Because we
don’t know at that moment, the source of the noise, our hearts jump and
we feel fear. Once we realize that the noise was only a book, falling
from the shelf, we are no longer fearful.
How about this? You are scheduled to give a presentation in class or at
work and you are extremely nervous and fearful that you will make a
complete fool of yourself. The fear has gripped you so badly that your
hands are sweating and your heart is racing. But, you are thoroughly
knowledgeable about your subject matter and you have practiced until you
know exactly what you have to do. The day of your presentation you end
up being GREAT.
What caused the fear? The fact that you didn’t know HOW it was going to
turn out. But it turned out great so therefore your fear was only in
your imagination.
Let’s say that you WANT to get a better paying job, or that you WANT to
live your life with purpose, but you are now, what they call, a
“responsible” adult. This means you have bills to pay. You have a family
to take care of. So, in your mind you imagine that staying on this job
is the only way you will maintain your responsibilities.
How do you make that change without taking a risk? How do you focus on
your purpose, when there are bills to pay? Stepping away from your
comfort zone can be very fearful.
You’ve never tried anything else. How do you KNOW that this is the only
job you can get? How do you know you cannot live your life with purpose
and make as much money, or maybe even more? How do you know if you never
try?
The truth of the matter is, you CAN live your life with purpose AND make
a great living doing it. You simply have to eliminate fear from your
life, completely. You simply HAVE to put faith in God and BELIEVE with
all of your heart that you were born for greatness. Because the truth is
YOU WERE.
Make a promise to yourself, right now, that you are going to make an
effort to do something that will bring you closer to living your life
with purpose. Fear is not an option. If you find fear rearing its ugly
head, tell yourself, “God hasn’t given me the spirit of fear, therefore
it does not exist.” Then, do something, however small, that will bring
you closer to living your life with purpose.
Now, I’m not telling you to walk away from your job that is providing
you with what you perceive to be “security.” But what I am saying is
find some time, perhaps as little as an hour, each day to do something
that you can do to move you closer to a life of purpose. And, if you
have to do something that makes you feel fearful, remember, it doesn’t
come from God therefore it does not exist.
Now stop existing and START LIVING.
