Spiritual Awakening

So many times when it’s time for me to write this newsletter
I don’t have a clue as to what I want to discuss or write about.
But because I know that what I do does not come from me but comes from
God, when I sit at my computer to write, I pray to God and ask Him to
guide me. I ask that He writes through me so that what is written will
reach at least one person who reads it and that it strikes a chord or
gives them that “ah ha” moment. I ask that it be something that they
will need, right now, in their life. I pray that He sends through me the
answer to someone’s prayer. And, I believe, with all my heart, that He
will give me something to write about that will help at least one
subscriber who reads the email. God is always right because each week I
receive at least one email stating something like this, “Your message
seemed to be written especially for me.” Most times it’s a bunch of
people who write the same type of message. God knows our needs and
desires and always puts the answer in front of us. It’s up to us to
take heed, listen and act on his answers.

Today, God led me to the Bible for this week’s newsletter. The word
“spirit” was on my mind. I was to write something regarding the
“spirit.”

Instead of pulling out my Bible, I went to the Bible online,
www.biblegateway.com. With Bible Gateway, you can search on a word and
it will show you all the verses in which the word appears in the Bible.
Also, you have several different versions of the Bible to choose from. I
always select the King James version.

Anyway, as I did a search on the word “spirit,” I came across this verse
and it stood out like a soar thumb. It’s Proverbs 25:28 and it reads,
“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken
down and without walls.”

WOW!!! How deep is that?

Immediately the visual image of a city that is broken down and without
walls came to my mind. Picture it right now. Imagine in your mind, a
city that is ruined, burned down or destroyed. Imagine how unattractive
and demolished it must look. Imagine no life form existing in this
city--nothing that even resembles life or living in this broken down
city.

The Bible tells us that if you have no rule over your spirit, you will
be like a city that is broken down and without walls. You will be
lifeless, burned down, and destroyed.

Isn’t that EXACTLY the way you feel when you go against your spirit? I
know it is that way for me. When I do something that goes against my
spirit, I feel broken. It lowers my self worth or self esteem.

But isn’t that the way most of us live our life? We don’t let our spirit
rule our life. We let our job, which is stifling our growth, rule our
life. We build everything that we do, around our work. And if you do not
feel that your work is aligned with your spirit, you feel lifeless,
burned down by the end of the day, unattractive and demolished.

Or perhaps you are in a relationship that leaves you feeling burned out,
lifeless, low. Or maybe our financial situation is making us feel
unworthy, broken down or dried up. Perhaps we don’t feel good about
ourselves. Or we don’t feel good about the things that we allow to
happen to us. It’s because we are going against our spirit.

Therefore you must take RULE OVER YOUR OWN SPIRIT.

There isn’t much that we can rule in this world, but our SPIRIT is one
of the things that we can.

ACTION POINT: From this day forward, consult with your spirit before you
make any choices in your life. Do you remember that song by India Arie
where she says, “Sometimes I shave my legs and sometimes I won’t.
Sometimes I comb my hair and sometimes I don’t. Depends on how the wind
blows I might even paint my toes. It really all depends on whatever
feels good to my soul.”

THAT’S HOW WE NEED TO START LIVING OUR LIFE. If it feels good to your
soul or your spirit, THEN DO IT. If it doesn’t feel good to your spirit,
then don’t do it. Be conscious of your spirit and your feelings. Become
aware of how your spirit directs you and guides you. If you learn to
listen to your spirit, you will see that you can create the type of life
that you’ve always wanted and desired. God is with you, guiding you,
through your spirit. Learn to LISTEN to it.
