Create a Great Day!

Hope you are having a wonderfully blessed day. I’ve made up my mind to
make every day a beautiful and enjoyable experience, and you know what -
every day has been a beautiful and enjoyable experience. Even though
what may be called “bad” things or as I call them, trials and
tribulations may be happening in my day, I make the choice to turn my
“bad” experiences into good or at least fun experiences.

Like for instance, it’s a very snowy and cold winter this season and the
other day, I slipped on the ice outside of the store and fell. I mean I
REALLY FELL. I landed on my rear end in front of a crowd of people and I
laughed until tears came to my eyes.

It wasn’t really funny that I fell, but HOW I fell was what was so
funny. You ever slip in front of a crowd and know you are going down but
try, with all of your might, NOT to fall? Well, that was me. Trying NOT
to fall and turning what could have been a two second fall into what
seemed like a slow motion fall. I was twisting and turning and doing the
hoochie coochie dance to try NOT to fall. This only made me lose my
balance even more. I fell one of those falls where your feet slip
completely out from under you. What was even funnier was watching the
people around me try NOT to laugh. At first everyone was quiet. I guess
they wanted to see if I was hurt. But when I started laughing they
couldn’t hold it in and it turned into a really fun experience. I can’t
even tell you the last time I actually fell down. It’s been years.

Later, I was laughing with one of my girlfriends and telling her what
happened. She said, “Oh, I would have been too embarrassed to get up. I
don’t know WHAT I would have done.” Being embarrassed never even crossed
my mind. The possibility of being hurt crossed my mind but embarrassment
never did. See, what one person sees as “bad”, another person may see
the “good” in it. It is sort of like that saying, “The glass is half
full.” Some will see the glass as being half full while others will see
it as being half empty.

But the thing to ALWAYS realize is that you have a CHOICE. And the
CHOICE is up to you. No matter what the circumstance is, you have a
CHOICE. You could choose to get angry about a situation, or you could
choose to learn from the experience. You could choose to handle things
in a negative way or you could choose to handle things in a positive
way. The choice is always up to you. No one could ever make you angry.
You choose to be angry. I know that is sometimes hard to accept. I have
a problem with it too sometimes when it comes to my husband. But I
remind myself, that I have a choice. I could let the fact that he didn’t
put the toilet seat down get me upset, or I could choose to ignore it
and close the seat myself. I could choose to calmly tell him how leaving
the seat up is not so good for me or I could choose to scream at him
which may cause him to choose to scream back.

In every situation we have a choice. When we wake up in the morning, we
could choose to have a good day or a bad day. Let’s say you wake up, get
out of bed and stub your toe on the corner of the bed. This ever
happened to you? You get that pain that shoots right through your body
and makes your teeth chatter. You can’t do anything for about 30 seconds
but moan. Starting a day like this will make some people miserable for
the rest of the day. Why? Because they started off miserable, and it
simply goes down hill after that. The reason is because they have chosen
to think about this negative situation and by dwelling on the negative
you attract more negative into your life. Now, to be honest with you,
while I’m writing this I’m trying to think of HOW you could possibly
turn stubbing your toe into a “good” situation and I simply can’t. I
can’t see how I could possibly turn it into something that is really
enjoyable. But what I could think of is this: Simply because one
situation happened that is negative, is not an excuse to be negative for
the rest of the day.

See, focusing on negative things, only brings more negative things into
your life. Let’s say you stubbed your toe. After you were able to walk
on it again, you go to the shower, but you are still thinking about
stubbing your toe. You are angry about it because it hurts. Your face is
even frowned up. You get in the shower and the water is too hot it
scowls you. You get dressed, get into the car headed for work and you
are stuck in traffic. The traffic is so slow you end up being 15 minutes
late for work and therefore late for your early morning meeting. And
from that point on, everything seems to be a wash. You can’t find the
work you worked on yesterday. You accidentally delete an important email
and can’t get it back. Your system crashes and you lose a report you
have been working on for the past 45 minutes because you forgot to save
it.

Doesn’t it seem like it always works out this way? You ever wondered
why?

It’s because you make the CHOICE to get angry and become negative after
you stubbed your toe.

Let’s say you had the opposite effect. You stubbed your toe. Sat down
for a few minutes until you were able to walk again. After you were a
little better, you took a second and said to yourself, “That hurt. But
I’m not going to let that ruin my day. I CHOOSE to have a great day
today. I choose to be positive and therefore, ONLY positive things will
happen to me today.” Then, get excited and thank God for the fabulous
day you are about to have.

Do you know what would happen?

You will have a fabulous day.

Why?

Because you made the “CHOICE” to not let a negative situation get you
down. Negative only attracts negative. Where positive only attracts
positive.

So, the next time you are having a negative experience, do your best to
see the positive in it. And if you can’t see anything positive, make the
choice to BE positive. Name it and claim it. Pray on it and I will
guarantee you that your next experience will be a positive one.
